PDA Phone Advice

My contract's up in a month or two, and I'm looking to upgrade to a PDA phone. Buuuuuut, I'm looking to, at the very least, match the specs of my Axim X30 so I can still sign onto AIM/Yahoo, browse the forum, and if I'm so inclined, watch a DVD rip I've loaded onto my SD card.

Are these phones out there yet, or did I grow up on too many years of Star Trek?

*edit - would also like to stay with Cingular. I've had them since I was 19 and, after working with the company for a spell, am well-versed in the buttons to push to get promos/credits/discounts.

The world of PDAs begins and ends with the Treo. By far better than any other PDA. That said, Cingular's Treo 650 works great as a Palm device, but I've heard that it has poor reception as a phone.

The 8125 is a decent PDA but a horrible phone. I would say go with the Moto Q but since you want to stay on Cingular the Treo is probably your best bet.

I just got a TMO MDA, and liking it so far. Dunno if it will work on the Cing network (I beleive they do). So far, it does everything you've described and more. Im sure though, that you could find something from Cing that would suit your needs better.

are you the one who works for cingular?

ive used the 8125 and not had any problems with it at all. ive used a treo (from sprint) and didnt like it. it felt incredibly underpowered. the 8125 is responsive, at least. and its about the size of a razr. just a little thicker and a little taller

That's me. And I know pda phones kinda, But i dont know if I can tell you what you truly should have, but here's some stuff I know

The 8125 actually uses microsoft programs (IE, word, power point, excel, etc) And has a collapsable stylus. I think the pull out keypad makes it much easier to use for typing things, but for making a call it uses the touch screen, which is harder.

Never used a treo though.

I too am in the market for a PDA phome, I was also looking at the MDA (HTC wizard which is the cingular 8125 with a different keypad). if you use amazon.com to buy the phone and service through t-mobile you can get a huuuuge discount. Can anyone tell me any ups and downs of the phone?

1)Can't really. I already have one so buying another would raise eyebrows. Not that my discount's anything good, it never was.

Seriously though, never give reps shit about the regular price of phones. The reality is, wireless carriers lose money on phones...it's obviously a calculated risk, but when a phone is sold at retail price, the company makes nothing on it, and probably loses money.

You're preaching to the choir, homeboy, I used to man the phones for one of the Cingular call centers. I had a pretty good track record for appeasing customers and resolving their issues, but some people were unholy ignorant fucks, and I felt compelled to convey this in their account comments.

as far as what phone you should get, all these PDA's have to be tried out first. Some people really hate WM b/c its buggy, but others hate palm b/c it could be on the verge of extinction. Symbian OS's are on the rise, but I know very little about them.

As far as speeds, CDMA EVDO capable phones are the fastest, but GSM EDGE phones aren't too far behind for the casual user.

I prefer palm (have the 700p for sprint) but if you wait a little while, cingular should be getting it as well

edit: on a semi-related note, does anyone know how to, or know of a software that helps you crack registerable software? (particularly palm) I know this is almost universally a taboo question, but I am looking for serials for a couple new proggy's and can't find them, so I figured I would try and do it myself..

when using it, i noticed it was a tad bit sluggish compared to my ipaq. but its a rather compact phone compared to my ipaq, also.

i think youll be happy with it.
