Not an MMO. Best single player RPG I've played in years. It's right up there with Baulder's Gate.

I'm playing on the PC, so I don't know how the console experience is.

It's not AS good as Mass Effect, imo, but honestly it's apples and oranges (I just dig the setting a little more of mass effect, as far as swords and spells goes this is as good as it gets). I like that unlike ME, I can directly control each of my characters. Setting AI tactics is nice, since it also avoids the annoying tendency of Mass Effect squadmates insta-spamming all of their powers and blowing their wad in a fight. I am a little more annoyed at how UNLIKE Mass Effect, I can't designate waypoints for characters. This is a little more annoying given that you get attack bonuses for flanking and rear attacks in the game.

I've got a level 7 mage I'm trying to get Arcane Warrior for. Not totally sure what secondary specialization to get for him.

I hadn't thought of this, but yeah, that would be nice. I'm sure it won't be far off now that the dev kit is available.

the dogs are pretty dark.

im enjoying it so far. the voice acting and cinematics are superb. its got a compelling story, though i've already figured out who the bad people are (foreshadowing's a bitch)

battles are tough, im getting raped on that damn tower right now. then again, i have shit tastic armor and weapons. im not paying a whole lot of attention into character development at the moment, and i think i might have to start over just so i can decide if i want to dual wield or go another route.

What difficulty are you on? The last boss in the tower was pretty rough, but pulling agro with a mage makes it about a billion times easier. Give everyone a bow, and have the mage run like a mother fucker.

Are you playing a rogue or warrior? I had DW issues with my warrior, but none with my rogue. Stack dex/cun, spec your talents (DW Mastery and Lethality) right and you will tear shit up. Sweep is also badass for inflicting a huge amount of damage on multiple targets.

What teams are you all using?

im really just kind of stumbling through it and not trying to power game. i have a warrior but I'm pretty sure I fucked him up already so I'm going to start over.

I keep wanting to just run up and bash people, and I have no bowmen so of course I'm getting schooled by the archers. Also I have invested zero time into the tactics portion which is why I'm getting owned. I fully understand what I'm doing wrong, I just rushed into the game to see how awesome it was. Starting over at this point isn't a bad deal, plus I missed the chanced to bang the chick in the opening chapter.

I might go for a dual wielder/bowman to see how that works.

Just started playing this last night. Stayed up way too fucking late playing it because I actually found myself enjoying the story. Made a lot of mistakes might start over as well, especially now that I know what the hell to do with my character. I'd gone dual wielding rogue and haven't had problems killing shit on normal really. I need to put more in dex and cunning right off the bat though.

i think the larger problem with RPG's based on D&D is that you get into that D&D stat mindset. We all know fighters = str/con but a lot of these games stray from the traditionalist viewpoint and put their own twist on stats.

what bothers me about this is that a thief/rogue isn't supposed to be a dual wielding deathdealer on the battlefield, yet in this game they are far better suited than a traditional fighter at this role. backstab is one of those skills that in D&D is used when you sneak up on someone and nail them from behind (like Templar on a date) but in this game its done on the open battlefield as if you always can outflank a guy when you run up to one on one him.

About 4 hours in, working on a level 4 dwarf rouge/ranger. Loved the dwarf noble origin story. I'm tempted to just play all the origin stories and then pick my favorite to play through the game.

The origin stories are all fantastic. I think I've played through all but the dwarf commoner at this point. They all have distinct flavor and were all fun.

This was tough for me to get my head around too. It helped when I started thinking of them as caster, light warrior, heavy warrior instead of mage, rogue, fighter. Then the rogue class includes the dual wielding agility fighter in addition to archer, thief and bard.

It helps explain the lack of a healer vs damage caster class. At first I forgot that I could give good offensive spells to my healer.

i took on that werewolf quest at level 8, I don't suggest you do this. Most of my people have like 10 different injuries and I'm out of injury repair packs.

Buy elfroot from the Dalish, hit up your camp merchant and purchase tons of secondary crafting items. You have Morrigan, make some health pots and injury kits.

All of the ones I found via PB were useless. They had the content, and the item DLC stuff worked, but the two new region DLC packs did not. Let me know how it works out for you.

Warden's Keep. Worth it?

lul @ Rain Man Jr. Enchanting is useful though. Warden's Keep is definitely worth it. You get a pretty swank set of warden armor just poking around the place, plus about 3 other useful things such as a party storage. Just make sure that you investigate everything you can in the keep, once you leave (after the final "boss") you cannot go back in.

Also figured it would be a good idea to list the places you can find an infinite amount of specific crafting items:

Lyrium Dust - Mage Tower.
Flasks - Party Camp
Concentrator/Distillation/Corrupter - Party Camp
Toxin Extract/Deathroot/Elfroot - Dalish Camp
Deep Mushroom - Ruck, in the Deep Roads.

*partial spoiler for Warden's Keep*
Levi's family ends up moving into the castle, providing you with a badass smith, and a new merchant. Some items found in the game can be taken to said smith who can make some pretty pimp weapons/armor. Also, the castle has a way to get a new ability line (which you don't have to spend points on).
