Yes, the tire could be bad but not likely. I have never seen a new tire leak and I've been in the trade for ~15 years - definitely a warrantyable issue though.
You could have picked up a nail or screw, which if it is still in the tire, can cause a slow leak. It would only be covered if they offered a "Road Hazzard" warranty but most shops would just plug or patch it for you at no charge (I would in my shop).
Or as nater said - it could be a bead leak. They should have cleaned and sealed the beading surface if there was some corrosion when they installed the tires but some lazy pricks don't bother. Again, this should be covered under warranty because of poor installation.
